A self-assessment or audit of your Web project is a very healthy thing
to do from time to time. Here we will assume that you have an existing
Web project with a small group of five or less developers, designers,
project manager involved. Your goal is to know where the project
stands and determine if there is any course corrections needed.
First determine where are you on the timeline. Identify a reliable project document that clearly
states that where you are at now is where you were supposed to be. If no such document
exists, create one immediately by meeting with everyone in the group. Put "We are Here"
in the timeline and create a number of milestones from today to estimated project completion date.
A few things that you should keep in mind are discussed below.
Bear in mind that typically developers tend to be very optimistic about their abilities
when asked about future time commitment. Use your personal judgement to buffer numbers
based on the personality and capability of each individuals in the group.
